Round structure (every lifter in a flight takes round 1, then round 2, then round 3, per lift), the 60-second clock to start an attempt, and the 20-minute (single-flight) or 10-minute (multi-flight) breaks between lifts are federation rules — IPF Technical Rulebook 2026, effective 2026-03-01, §6.1–6.2; USAPL Rulebook v2026.2, in effect 2026-01-01, §5.3.4–5.3.10. how to use the suggestions
- Open with certainty. The first attempt should establish a total. If warmups change the picture, edit the card rather than defending the preset.
- Use the second to build the total. A successful second gives room to choose a third from meet-day performance instead of chasing a plan written days earlier.
- Treat the third as conditional. “Stretch” is an upside case, not the expected result. The editable values and legal-increment validation are the product; the percentages are only starting points.
- Repeat after a miss when needed. Attempts may stay at the same weight but never decrease. Presets rise by default; equal attempts remain valid so the card can reflect a repeated missed lift.
The default percentages are coaching heuristics, not an IPF rule and not a population model. A retrospective analysis of successful international lifters can describe what that sample did, but it cannot prescribe every athlete's meet. LiftGauge therefore exposes every assumption and keeps all nine values editable.

- What percentage should my powerlifting opener be?
- A common starting range is about 88–92 % of a realistic current max. Choose the low end when the reference is uncertain, the cut was difficult, or commands are unfamiliar. An opener's job is to get on the board, not prove the e1RM.
- Why are all attempts in kilograms?
- Powerlifting attempts are submitted in 2.5 kg increments at most sanctioned meets. You may enter reference lifts in pounds, but the generated card converts them to legal kg attempts and shows plate-loader links for each one.
- Should I change attempts after a miss?
- Yes. Meet-day attempt selection is conditional. A missed opener may be repeated at the same weight; a slow second often means keeping the planned third conservative. Attempts can repeat but cannot decrease. This calculator creates an editable card, not an automatic meet-day decision.
- How accurate are the warmup and attempt times on this page?
- They are estimates built from the platform pace you enter, not a federation schedule. The round structure, the 60-second attempt clock and the inter-lift break lengths are real rules (IPF Technical Rulebook 2026, effective 2026-03-01; USAPL Rulebook v2026.2, in effect 2026-01-01), but no rulebook sets a fixed seconds-per-attempt cadence. Use the recalibration control once the flight is running to correct every remaining time.
